About Paula

Paula Totherow

PGA Teaching Professional
President Quantum Secret, Inc.

Paula Totherow is the short-game teaching professional at the Donna Helms School of Golf.  Paula’s golf career began at the age of 5.  With the encouragement of two uncles, both of whom were avid golfers, and supportive parents, both of whom loved the game, Paula spent most of her young life, as she says, “on course”.

As a teenager her time spent playing junior golf in the Carolinas remains one of the most treasured, memorable times of her life.  The friendships and memories of those days endure to this day and are a part of who she has become as an adult.

Paula attended Appalachian State University on a golf scholarship.  However, her playing time was cut short due to a back injury and a lingering illness.  After graduating from Appalachian Paula was hired by Izod International as a sales representative to sell women’s apparel to golf and tennis shops throughout North and South Carolina.  Calling on hundreds of pro shops and being around the “golf” world reminded her of just how much she missed the game.  At this point, Paula gave up her selling job and started pursuing a career in the golf industry.  She became a member of the PGA of America in 1992.

After being involved in the golf industry for many years as a shop manager and a teaching professional, Paula’s interest shifted with the changing industry. Her students, both old and young, seemed to lack the stamina and the overall health they needed to perform to their maximum ability.  With a strong business background and genuine love of people, her focus was centered on helping others through the 'education' of taking control of their health. Through many years of research and study, Paula found a little known nutrition company in Sedona, AZ. The company, Quantum International, Inc., manufactures and produces the most pristine products available on the market today. Paula had found the answer she was looking for in the health industry to benefit her students who were, “not up to par.”

Donna's Tip #627

Shanking - a fearing not a feeling. The lack of proper wrist cock and release are the culprits behind the "theory" of a shanked shot. However, I believe that because the swinging of a shorter club promotes a shank, the actual cause can be termed "wooden wrist". In order to prevent, stop or never have the "shanks" deliver the club head more inside the golf ball while retaining the wrist cock longer on the downswing. One sure fire cure is to place a board about 1 inch outside the ball and swing down that line without hitting the board.
